Greece will be generally sunny with some clouds around midday in several areas

On Monday, the weather in Greece will be generally clear with sunshine and scattered clouds around midday in continental areas. In the mountains, at noon and in the afternoon, the clouds are expected to be temporarily denser and some local rain showers may occur.

By the evening, the weather will be clear in most areas. As the temperature rises throughout the country, the highs will reach 36 degrees Celsius in the west, 37 in the north, 38 in the eastern mainland and up to 35 in the southern Aegean.

The winds in the Ionian will start off weak and variable, but change into westerlies and up to 5 Beaufort. In the Aegean winds will blow from the north between 5-6 Beaufort.

Clear skies are predicted in Attica with plenty of sun and a few thin clouds. The temperature will range from 24 – 37 degrees and the north winds 2 – 4 Beaufort, gradually turning to the south.

In Thessaloniki, the day will start with sun and from midday, sparse clouds are forecast, at times denser in the surrounding mountains. The temperature will range from 23 – 35 degrees, with south winds 3 – 4, temporarily in the afternoon 5 Beaufort.

Over the next week the country will be affected by a strong heat wave, with temperatures on Thursday and Friday as high as 42 degrees Celsius, which is on average 14 degrees above normal levels.
