Possible thunderstorms and strong winds are expected today, Sunday, August 25, in western and central Greece, while generally fair weather in Greece will prevail in the rest of the country, according to the forecast from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS).
Specifically, the weather will be generally calm and pleasant with occasional sparse clouds passing over the Ionian Sea and mainland Greece.
During the midday and afternoon hours, these clouds will thicken locally over the mainland, leading to short-lived showers and possible thunderstorms, mainly in the mountainous areas of western and central Macedonia, Thessaly, western and central Greece, and the Peloponnese.
Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching 6 and occasionally 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea, with a slight weakening expected from the afternoon.
Temperatures will drop slightly, particularly in the east and north, reaching 35 to 36°C in the mainland and locally 37 to 38°C in the western and central regions. The Ionian Islands, southern Crete, and the Dodecanese will see temperatures between 34 and 35°C, while the rest of the island regions will experience 31 to 32°C.
Regional Forecasts:
- Attica: Generally fair with occasional clouds in the afternoon. Northeasterly winds at 4 to 5 Beaufort, temporarily reaching 6 Beaufort in the east. Temperatures from 23 to 35°C, slightly lower in the east.
- Thessaloniki: Fair with occasional clouds thickening in the afternoon, leading to short showers mainly in mountainous areas. Variable winds at 2 to 4 Beaufort. Temperatures from 20 to 34°C.
- Macedonia, Thrace: Fair with occasional clouds, thickening in the afternoon in Western and Central Macedonia, bringing short showers mainly in the mountains. Variable winds at 2 to 4 Beaufort, reaching 5 Beaufort in the east. Temperatures from 19 to 36°C, slightly cooler in Western Macedonia.
The forecast suggests careful attention should be paid to weather conditions, especially in regions where storms are likely. Stay updated on the weather in Greece with local weather reports.
