Weather Forecast: January 8th

Schools will remain closed today in the islands of Zakynthos, Lesvos, and the municipality of Pylaia in Macedonia due to severe weather conditions

Not a great start to the week weather-wise as rain is expected in most of Greece. Thunderstorms are also anticipated mainly in western Greece – the Ionian, Epirus, western Peloponnese, but don’t be surprised if they pass on to the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, even eastern Macedonia and Thrace in the morning and the Cyclades and western Crete in the afternoon.

Snow is expected in the continental mountainous areas, especially in those of Epirus and Macedonia, while dust from Africa might also make its way to the east and south.

Frost will also occur early in the morning in the northwestern continental areas.

Winds will blow southwest at 5 to 7 points on the Beaufort scale, but will weaken in the afternoon. A drop in temperature is expected, with a maximum of 13 to 15 degrees Celsius in the northern continental areas and 16 to 19 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.
