Parts of Greece are bracing for strong winds, intense cold, and even local snowfall, as a severe weather front is forecast to grip the country in the coming hours.
Light snow is already reported in the northern areas of Athens near Mount Parnitha – a mountain range north of Athens, and the highest on the peninsula of Attica – while roads are closed due to the severe weather conditions.
The Greek Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued a severe weather bulletin for stormy winds, prompting the closure of schools in various regions on Wednesday (10/1). Snowfall has been reported in Mount Parnitha, with a remote possibility of snow falling in Athens over the weekend, even at lower altitudes.
Authorities have instructed motorists traveling near Mount Parnitha to use snow chains.
