Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) posted the 2025 vehicle tax notice online on Tuesday afternoon. Vehicle owners can access the IAPR digital platform, myAADE (myaade.gov.gr), to obtain their payment codes and ensure timely payment of vehicle tax by December 31, 2024.

According to the law, the following penalties apply for late payment of the vehicle tax notice:

  • A 25% penalty if paid by January 31, 2025.
  • A 50% penalty if paid by the end of February 2025.

An amount equal to the tax if paid from March 1, 2025, onward, or in cases of partial or non-payment of the 2025 vehicle taxes.

Some useful information vehicle owners should be aware of about vehicle taxes includes:

  • Owners do not owe next year’s tax if they transfer the vehicle this year.
  • In the cases of more than one owner of a vehicle, only one co-owner is obligated to pay the tax. However, if unpaid, all co-owners are jointly responsible for the total amount.
  • In the event an individual changes their registration plate number after paying the tax, they are not obliged to pay for the new license plate.
  • If the vehicle was officially taken out of service, either voluntarily or compulsorily, before the beginning of the tax year, tax is not owed.

In addition to the annual tax, a penalty applies as follows:

Equal to the tax amount if the vehicle is a motorcycle, tricycle, or private passenger vehicle.
Half the tax amount if the vehicle is a public-use passenger vehicle, truck, or bus.
€30 if the vehicle tax is less than €30.
