The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens eyes opening a branch of the university on Cyprus, in an important step towards the internationalization of the university, according to reports at In.gr.
The initiative has been passed to the university’s Senate and a committee of professors has been appointed to develop a plan for the establishment of the branch and organization of undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
The decision is a significant one for the university and for Greece, as it indicates that extroversion and internationalization are top priorities. And the choice of Cyprus is not surprising, especially considering the close relationship between the two countries.
The University of Athens is Greece’s largest university and the first one to be established in southeast Europe. In order for plans to go ahead, the branch will require a decision of the Senate and a Presidential Decree, in accordance with Law 4957/2022.
