The unemployment rate in Greece stood at 10.4% in January 2024, according to the official data released by the Hellenic Statistics Authority (EL.STAT).
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January 2024 was 10.4%, compared to 11.3% in January 2023 and the revised upwards of 10.4% in December 2023.
Women were more affected than men by unemployment, with rates of 13.2% and 8.0%, respectively. The jobless rate for young people aged 15 to 24 decreased to 22.9% in January from 26.8% in the same month in 2023, EL.STAT announced.
Employed persons amounted to 4,266,094 individuals, an increase of 115,538 individuals compared to January 2023 (2.8%) and 28,810 individuals compared to December 2023 (0.7%).
The unemployed amounted to 495,132 individuals, a decrease of 34,245 individuals compared to January 2023 (-6.5%) and an increase of 1,741 individuals compared to December 2023 (0.4%).
People under 75 who are not included in the workforce, or “people outside the workforce,” meaning those who are not working and not seeking employment, amounted to 3,028,607, a decrease of 103,663 individuals compared to January 2023 (-3.3%) and 29,422 individuals compared to December 2023 (-1.0%).
