Greek Police (EL.AS) said two men shouting “Allahu Akbar”, with one brandishing a knife, were arrested on Thursday evening in the northwest Athens district of Nea Ionia.
Authorities said one of the two men was located and arrested at an electric train (ISAP) station. He was carrying a knife with a 21-centimeter blade when accosted. The second suspect was arrested nearby, also in possession of a large knife, police reports state.
The suspects were identified as Pakistani nationals, 20 and 26, respectively. Both men were charged with illegal possession and use of a weapon. A further investigation is continuing.
Police were summoned to the scene by local residents.
