Two Killed, One Injured in a Deadly Shooting in Glyfada

Initial reports suggest that the victims were of Kurdish origin, though no further information has been released regarding their identity.

A deadly shooting in Glyfada unfolded inside a betting store near Karaiskaki Square in the district, located in south Athens, on Monday shortly after 10 am. The incident left two people dead and one injured, reportedly all Turkish nationals of Kurdish origin, sparking a swift response from law enforcement.

As reported, two men, both 35 years old, were killed, while another 25-year-old individual sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital in Voula.

The violent incident occurred at the intersection of Lefkosias and Mikras Asias streets in the Terpsithea district of the seaside town. The area features an array of stores, including a supermarket, a pharmacy, an OPAP betting store, and a kindergarten nearby.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing over 30 gunshots, with the victims found lying outside the nearby shops. Two individuals reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Law enforcement responded swiftly, with the DIAS motorcycle police unit detaining two Turkish nationals in connection with the incident.

Initial reports suggest that the victims were of Kurdish origin, though no further information has been released regarding their identity.

Authorities, which have cordoned off the crime scene, have ruled out armed robbery as a motive and are investigating whether personal disputes or a settling of scores led to the violent confrontation.

More than ten bullet casings were recovered from the crime scene, with the case having been assigned to the Organized Crime Division.
