The latest weather front on the north Aegean island of Thasos led to wildfires erupting in two parts of the island as lighting strikes hit the ground.

According to the Fire Department, the fires are burning in the village of Panagia and town of Skala Potamia.

A total of 32 firefighters with one ground team, 13 vehicles, and water tanks from the local authorities are at the scenes, while one aircraft and two helicopters are conducting water drops.

18 more firefighters with one ground team and five vehicles are traveling to the island from a nearby port in Kavala and another ground team is arriving by helicopter.
