A 2.7 magnitude earthquake shook the greater Athens area at around 19:29 (17.29 GMT) on Wednesday following a brief tremor felt by many residents at 17:10.
According to reports, the first tremor hit briefly at 17:10 followed by a slightly longer quake at 19:29, with its epicenter in the northeastern Athens suburb of Agia Paraskevi.
The first 2.3 magnitude earthquake was at a depth of 5km, according to the Geodynamic Institute, and was reported near Agia Paraskevi.
Residents across Athens described the second quake on social media as “intense but brief”, lasting approximately 4 seconds.
No immediate casualties or damage has been reported.
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit Athens in 1999 near Mount Parnitha, overlooking greater Athens from the northwest, resulting in the deaths of 143 people and widespread structural damage.
