Turkish Media: 7 ‘Terrorists’ Arrested Trying to Flee to Greece

Reports say the individuals were arrested in the border city of Edirne, with six accused of being FETO members and the other one belonging to the PKK

Turkish media on Friday afternoon reported that seven individuals, whom they identified as belonging to terrorist groups, were arrested by gendarmerie forces after attempting to illegally exit the country and clandestinely enter northeast Greece through the Evros (Maritsa) River.

The arrests were made in or near the Turkish border city of Edirne.

A statement by the province’s governor, and reproduced in Turkish media, states that “seven terrorists, one of whom is a member of the PKK and six members of FETO, were arrested. They tried to illegal enter Greece this past week.”

“FETO”, standing for “Fethullah terrorist organization”, refers to the Gulen movement, which has been outlawed in Turkey and is vilified by the Erdogan administration, his supporters and the pro-government media in the neighboring country. The US and EU consider the Kurdish separatist organization PKK a terrorist group.
