An elderly man was hit by a train on Thursday morning around 11:00 a.m. in the downtown Athens area of Metaxourgeio.

According to reports from To Vima, the man was walking along Konstantinopoleos Avenue, a main road, when a train passing through the area struck him.

The man was injured, and police and an ambulance quickly arrived at the scene. He was transported to a hospital and, according to reports, is injured but not in critical condition.

This incident follows recent media coverage highlighting the persistent dangers of Greece’s train systems and criticism regarding the lack of a pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in the country.

However, media reports do not specify whether the man was using a designated crosswalk or if the traffic lights in the area were functioning properly.
