Yellowstone National Park is situated between three states in the western United States, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho and was established by the US Congress as a national preserve. It covers 8,987 sq km and has unique geological features such as “fossil forests and eroded basaltic lava flows, and some 10,000 hydrothermal features, including hot springs, steam vents, fumaroles, and geysers.”
