Forced to abdicate as French emperor after his defeat in the Battle of Leipzig (1913) Napoleon was exiled the following year in to the island of Elba. He managed to escape in 1815 and, gathering support on his way back, he retook power and reestablished himself as emperor for a Hundred Days until he was decisively defeated in the Battle of Waterloo and was exiled to the island of St. Helena where he died six years later.
