Three people were killed in a three-car pile-up collision on Katechaki Avenue in Athens on Monday afternoon (March 3).

According to initial reports from public broadcaster ERT, two elderly individuals were pulled unresponsive from a white Toyota vehicle, and their deaths were confirmed on the scene. A third person, who was seriously injured, was rescued but later succumbed to their injuries.

The pileup occurred at the intersection of Katechaki Avenue and Pindou Street in Goudi.

According to police reports, the elderly driver’s vehicle crashed into a taxi ahead, which then collided with another car in front of it.

Two passengers from the taxi sustained injuries but remained conscious. They were transported to Athens General State Hospital for further medical evaluation. Similarly, a passenger from the third vehicle was also taken for treatment.

Emergency responders, including police and EKAB paramedics, arrived at the scene to assist in the rescue efforts, investigate the cause of the accident, and manage traffic, as the crash caused significant congestion.
