Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, is expecting more than 40,000 visitors to attend EuroPride 2024 to take place in June.
The European Pride Organizers Association awarded Thessaloniki the annual EuroPride event, which celebrates diversity in Europe. The Greek northern port city won bids from Norway, Belgium and Germany. Each year a different European city hosts the event.
EuroPride 2024 Thessaloniki will take place on June 21-29, during Pride Month. For eight days, the city will host dozens of LGBTQ+ art and theater performances, walking tours, screenings, awareness-raising events, a human rights conference, a pride fair, and the traditional pride parade on June 29. Art exhibitions will be taking place across the city for Pride Month.
This year’s theme is “Persevere – Progress – Prosper”. The event is organized by Thessaloniki Pride with the support of the municipality and the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization.
The event comes months after Greece legalized same-sex marriage becoming the first Orthodox Christian nation in the world to do so, the 16th in the EU, and the 37th country globally and enabling same-sex couples to now legally adopt children.
