Α union representing the greater Athens area’s taxi drivers/owners has announced a 24-hour strike starting at 5 a.m. on Monday and ending at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, the next day.
The strike was declared on the Union of Athens’ Taxi Drivers (SATA) website, which also called for a general assembly of its members.
In its announcement, SATA expressed strong opposition to recent legislation imposing stricter rules and higher tax rates—based on presumed annual income—for self-employed professionals, craftsmen and freelancers.
Additionally, SATA opposes a recently ratified amendment by the tourism ministry aimed at cracking down on violations by drivers providing tourist services. The union argues that this amendment is designed to benefit large companies and multi-nationals.
