A tanker truck burst into flames on the Athens-Corinth National Highway near Kineta (Kinetta), causing a major traffic disruption, on Friday morning, August 9. Emergency services quickly responded, with twelve firefighters and four fire engines dispatched to the scene of the tanker truck fire.
According to Greece’s national broadcaster ERT, the tanker driver sustained injuries but remained conscious. EKAV (National Emergency Aid Center) responders at the scene promptly transported the driver to the hospital for further treatment.
Traffic in both directions has been brought to a standstill. A police statement confirms that the tanker truck fire accident, which involved the truck overturning and catching fire, has severely affected traffic flow at the 56th kilometer of the Athens-Corinth National Highway near Kineta.
Authorities have issued further updates, indicating that traffic is being diverted as follows:
1. At the Kineta Interchange for vehicles heading towards Athens.
2. At the Pachi Interchange for vehicles traveling towards Corinth.
