Rents for student housing at university cities and towns across Greece increased by an average 10% in the last weeks of June compared to the same period a year ago, found data released on Wednesday by real estate experts Spitogatos.
Greek families received official university admission announcements on Wednesday and are already looking for student homes.
According to the same data, the number of listed properties for student rent are up by 5% compared to a year ago.
The most expensive student housing options are in Athens with the lowest for a studio (one-room apartment) at around 380 to 420 euros found in Nikaia, Patission-Acharnon, and Kypseli, and the most expensive renting in Kolonaki-Lykavittos and in the center of Athens at 505 euros and 600 euros, respectively.
In Thessaloniki meanwhile, Greece’s second largest city and home to several universities and colleges, prices are up by 9.4% with the lowest rents at around 350 euros for a studio reported in Evosmos and Stavroupoli and the highest at 435 euros in the city center.
Rents in Greek towns with universities that are also popular tourist destinations such as Rhodes (400 euros); Chania, Crete (450 euros) and Corfu (450 euros) were also up. The lowest rents were found in Lamia and Agrinio, Central Greece, while rents in Trikala and Halkida (Evia) marked the largest increases in the period under review.
