Stormy Weekend ahead for Athens; Rain on Friday

The weather will start to improve from the north during the weekend, as rain will gradually shift southward.  On Saturday, the eastern mainland and the Aegean will be most affected by the bad weather.

The weather will remain unsettled on Friday, with rain and scattered thunderstorms, growing more intense in the afternoon, expected across almost all of Greece. Only the northern areas and the southern Aegean are expected to see less rain.

More specifically, temporarily strong thunderstorms are forecasted for western Greece during the midday and afternoon hours. Toward the evening, rain will significantly intensify in Thessaly, the Thermaic Gulf, the Sporades, and Evia. These conditions moving southward by Saturday.

Snowfall is expected in the central mountainous regions and in western Macedonia from the afternoon onward.

Temperatures will reach 10-14  degrees Celsius in the north, 16-20 degrees in other areas, and up to 23 degrees in Crete around midday, though a sudden drop is expected later in the day, beginning from the north of the country.

Winds will blow from the north at 4-6 Beaufort, reaching up to 7 in the seas, and will strengthen further by the evening in the northern Aegean.

In Attica, rain and scattered thunderstorms are forecast from midday onward, with temperatures between 13-20 degrees Celsius. Winds will be easterly at 3-4 Beaufort, strengthening in the evening.

In Thessaloniki, weather will be unsettled starting in the morning, with moderate rain and strong thunderstorms expected at night, especially around the Thermaic Gulf and Halkidiki. Temperatures will range from 8-11 degrees, dropping sharply in the afternoon. Winds will blow from the north at 4-6 Beaufort.

Weather During the Weekend

Intense conditions are expected in Thessaly, the Sporades, and Evia, with Attica and the eastern Aegean gradually impacted toward midday.

Temperatures will drop to 12-17 degrees on the mainland and up to 19 degrees in the Aegean, with very strong northern winds, up to 7 Beaufort and 8 in the Aegean.

By Sunday, the bad weather will be limited to the south, especially Crete and the Dodecanese. The rest of the country will experience clear skies from the morning but with a chill in the air. Although temperatures will rise slightly, they will remain unseasonably low, with maximums around 13-18 degrees. Northern winds will blow up to 6-7 Beaufort in the morning but will gradually subside in the afternoon.
