Greece’s Foreign Affairs Ministry activated on Wednesday the Crisis Management Unit which will provide assistance to Greek citizens wishing to depart from Lebanon and conflict zones in the Middle East.

Greek citizens should contact the consular office of the Greek embassy in Beirut on (+961) 71 593659 or by e-mail at grcon.bei@mfa.gr. They can also contact the foreign ministry on (+30) 210-3681350 and (+30) 210-3681730.

Further operations in view of escalating conflict in the Middle East were scheduled to be discussed during Wednesday’s extraordinary meeting of the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) called by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Greece has already provided three C-130 military transport aircraft to assist in the evacuation of Greek and Cypriot citizens from war hit zones in the Middle East.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Greek Foreign Ministry announced that a 26-year-old Greek national, Ionas Karousis, was killed when two gunmen opened fire in Tel Aviv, killing seven and injuring dozens more.

Meanwhile, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon announced on Tuesday the closure of  airspace after Iran launched a missile attack on Israel. World leaders condemned Iran’s attack on Israel.
