As the extreme weather continues to sweep through Greece, blanketing many northern cities in snow, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) issued a new emergency weather bulletin. According to the latest forecast, the severe conditions, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, snowfall even at lower altitudes, and gale-force winds, are expected to persist until Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Many regions of the country are experiencing a significant drop in temperatures in many regions, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms.

From Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the phenomena will gradually weaken, but frost, especially in northern Greece, will continue for the next three days.

Rain and Thunderstorms:
Intense rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in the Ionian Sea (mainly southern parts), the northern and eastern Aegean islands, the Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly (particularly the eastern parts), the Sporades, and Euboea.

Snowfall:
Heavy snow is forecast in Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace, and Thessaly, primarily in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, with some snow expected at lower altitudes.
In Central Greece and the Peloponnese, heavy snowfalls are anticipated in mountainous regions.

Winds:
In the northern Aegean, gale-force northeasterly winds of 8-9 Beaufort are expected. In the Ionian Sea, strong southeasterly winds reaching 7-8 Beaufort will prevail.

2. Tuesday, January 14, 2025

Rain and Thunderstorms:
Intense rainfall and thunderstorms will continue in the Ionian Sea (mainly southern parts), the northern and eastern Aegean islands, the Peloponnese (especially the western and southern areas), Central Greece, Thessaly (mainly the eastern parts), the Sporades, Euboea, and briefly the Cyclades.

Snowfall:
Snowfall will persist in Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, and in some cases at lower altitudes, though it will gradually subside.
In Thessaly, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese, heavy snow is expected in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, as well as at lower altitudes in parts of Thessaly, Phthiotis, and Boeotia.

Winds:
In the Aegean, gale-force northeasterly winds will reach 8 Beaufort, and up to 9 Beaufort in the northern parts. In the Ionian Sea, strong easterly winds of 7-8 Beaufort are forecast, with gradual weakening expected by the afternoon.
