This year’s New Year’s Eve celebration in central Athens will be unlike any other, according to LIFO.
Athenians celebrating at Syntagma Square will usher in 2025 with “silent” fireworks, a groundbreaking display where the pyrotechnics will dazzle visually – but without sound.
The technology behind these fireworks uses meticulously designed chemical compositions that minimize noise while maintaining the brightness and vivid colors of traditional fireworks.
“This initiative has been part of the new municipal administration’s vision since the beginning. It was a desire of the mayor and all of us to ensure that these festive moments remain full of light, music, and cheer without disturbing pets or urban wildlife,” stated Kostis Papaioannou, President of Technopolis, speaking to MEGA.
Additionally, the New Year’s Eve sky will be lit up by hundreds of drones soaring over the city center in a spectacular show dedicated to Athens, its heritage, and the arrival of 2025, as announced by the Athens Municipality.
New Year’s Eve at Syntagma with Delivorias, Bofiliou, and Frintzila
Foivos Delivorias, Natassa Bofiliou, Martha Frintzila, Thanasis Aleuras, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens will perform at Syntagma Square on New Year’s Eve.
This year’s traditional New Year’s event by the Athens Municipality will feature “The Terrace of Time,” a musical extravaganza conceived by Foivos Delivorias. This unique performance will take audiences on a journey through Athens’ history, from 1945 to 2025, blending music, dance, and humorous interludes.
The grand celebration will begin with a performance by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens. Afterward, the stage will be taken over by Latternative for the year’s first big party. The dynamic DJ duo Stavros Dioskouridis and Panagiotis Menegos from EnLefko 87.7 promise to keep the rhythm alive into the early hours of the New Year.
The event is fully accessible, with Greek Sign Language interpretation by Sofia Roboli and a livestream available on the official Facebook page of the Athens Municipality (@cityofathensofficial) and its YouTube channel.
Athens Mayor Charis Doukas will join the artists on stage at Syntagma Square to lead the countdown to 2025.
