As storm “Cassandra” is set to wreak havoc in the Balkans throughout the weekend, Greece should also expect some bad weather to come its way.

Light to moderate rain is mostly expected across the country, but thunderstorms are also forecasted in the southern Ionian, western Central Greece, the western and southern Peloponnese as well as eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the afternoon onwards.

Temperatures will slightly drop, reaching a high of 24–26 degrees Celsius in western Greece and 28-29 degrees in the northern parts of the country. The rest of mainland Greece will see daily highs at 30-31 degrees, while the Aegean’s max temps will range between 27 and 30 degrees.

Winds across the country will blow from the southwest at 3–5 points on the Beaufort scale, increasing to 6 Beaufort around noon.

Temporary clouds are expected in the Attica region with sunny intervals. Light rain will occur from the afternoon on in the western and northern parts of the region. Temperatures will range from 20–30 degrees, with winds blowing south at 3–5 Beaufort, weakening in the afternoon.

In Thessaloniki, rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected during the midday and afternoon, but the weather is set to improve by the evening. Temperatures will range from 20–27 degrees, and light variable winds will blow at 2-3 Beaufort.
