Shocking Speargun Attack in Volos- Man Shoots Father in Head

The 69-year-old man was attacked by his 40-year-old son in Volos, Greece, with a knife and speargun, and is in the hospital fighting for his life.

A violent and surreal incident in Volos, Greece, has shocked the local community and media, resembling a scene straight out of a horror film. On Wednesday morning, MEGA TV reported that a 40-year-old man had attacked his 69-year-old father with a speargun, shooting him in the head.

Details of the Brutal Attack

The violence began when the son allegedly attempted to assault his father with a knife. When this initial attack failed, the son escalated the situation by loading a speargun and firing it at his father’s chest. The assault didn’t stop there; the son then shot his father in the head with the same weapon, lodging a harpoon deep into his skull.

Despite the severe injuries, including a harpoon embedded in his head, the 69-year-old victim was found to be astonishingly communicative when rescuers arrived.

Victim’s Condition and Rescue Efforts

Emergency responders rushed to the scene after being alerted by the police at 8:27 a.m. Despite the grave nature of the injuries, the victim was found to be fully conscious and able to interact with rescuers, an almost unbelievable fact given the speargun in his head.

The injured man was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. He is currently intubated and sedated in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

First Responder’s Account of the Gruesome Scene

Speaking to MEGA TV, Giannis Goulas, one of the first responders, described the scene as nothing short of horrifying.

“We were notified by the police that there had been a shooting. When we arrived, we found a wound on the right side of the victim’s chest and saw the harpoon lodged in his head. It’s not something you encounter every day. Despite the harpoon being embedded in his skull, the man was fully conscious, his vital organs were functioning well, and he was aware of his surroundings. He understood that there was a harpoon in his head. We immobilized him and carefully prepared him for transfer to the ambulance,” Goulas recounted.

Due to the precarious nature of the victim’s injuries, Goulas and his team took extra precautions during the transfer to the hospital. “We had to ensure that the man remained in an upright position during the transport to minimize vibrations and prevent further complications. The harpoon had entered from the front of the skull and exited through the occipital region at the back. It’s a miracle the man survived. The harpoon passed through areas of the head where major arteries are located, which could have easily led to uncontrollable bleeding,” Goulas added.

Medical Prognosis, Attacker on the Run

Doctors continue to monitor the victim’s condition closely. Although his injuries are severe, his survival after such a traumatic event is considered remarkable. Experts have noted that if the harpoon had struck just millimeters differently, the outcome could have been fatal.

The man’s son fled the scene of the crime and the Greek authorities are currently looking for him.
