A severe heat wave is anticipated across Greece, prompted by a strong southwestern airflow from the coasts of Africa and the Central Mediterranean, as detailed in the emergency weather bulletin from the Greek National Meteorological Service.
This influx of warm air masses will drive temperatures to soar across the country, persisting until at least Friday, July 19.
Inland areas of mainland Greece, particularly in the west and north, are expected to experience extreme temperatures reaching 41 to 42 degrees Celsius, possibly even hitting 43 degrees Celsius in some places.
Meanwhile, temperatures on the islands of the eastern Aegean will peak between 39 to 40 degrees Celsius.
Coastal regions of the mainland will see slightly cooler temperatures, reduced by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius due to the sea breeze.
Additionally, minimum temperatures will remain elevated, especially starting from Monday, July 15.
The forecast also highlights significant thermal stress conditions expected in most mainland areas due to the impending heat wave.
