Two stations along the Athens metro line 3, also known as the blue line, will temporarily close on Wednesday, September 18, at 15:30.
The Greek police have ordered the closure of Korydallos and Maniatika stations for security reasons, as a protest, march and several events will be organized in the area.
Pavlos Fyssas Memorial Event
Today, a gathering is scheduled in Athens’ working-class suburb of Keratsini in memory of the murder of Pavlos Fyssas eleven years ago.
A protest and march has also been organized in the area, which will start at the Pavlos Fyssas memorial and end near the Agios Nikolaos metro station.
A music event has also been organized in Fyssas’ honor, which has free admission.
Apart from the Athens metro closure, Local authorities have announced that certain streets in the Piraeus region will be closed off for the duration of the march, and buses will be rerouted to avoid the main demonstration areas. Travelers in the area are advised to use alternative routes and plan for additional travel time. Police presence will be heightened to ensure the safety of participants and prevent any potential clashes with far-right groups.
Pavlos Fyssas was a Greek rapper, known for his anti-facist beliefs, and was murdered on September 18, 2o13 by a member of Greece’s neo-fascist group called Golden Dawn.
