For the fourth consecutive day, authorities in the city-port of Chania, Crete, continue their desperate search for a missing German tourist who arrived by car at the Samaria Gorge on Thursday, February 13, but has not been seen since.

According to local media, authorities are utilizing all available information, meticulously combing the area for any trace of the missing man—but so far, without success.

The search operation involves three fire service vehicles with six firefighters, specialized EMAK rescue teams, and two drones. Police forces are also present in the area, and the Coast Guard has been notified.

Security camera footage shows the young man parking his car at Xyloskalo, the entrance to the Samaria Gorge, before heading into the area on foot.

The 21-year-old tourist had rented a white car and set off from Chania toward the gorge on Thursday, February 13. His disappearance was reported to the police on Saturday by the car rental company’s owner, who had not been able to contact him for days.

According to reports from zarpanews.gr, a Cretan local news outlet, the young tourist had rented the vehicle to move around Chania.

On Thursday, he drove to Omalos, a small village at a distance of 39km from Chania, and specifically to Xyloskalo—the starting point of the Samaria Gorge—where he was last seen before vanishing.
