Ruined Nuptials: Event Estate Owner Accused of Scamming Couples

Owner allegedly nicked 22 down payments for wedding receptions at the estate, which lacked a business license and was closed

Pricey wedding receptions for at least 22 prospective newlywed couples turned into a nightmare, according to a televised report on a Mega Channel current affairs program, when the owner of an events estate in the east Attica prefecture township of Koropi allegedly scammed them out of down payments.

The estate in question had been closed by authorities for lacking a business license, and after police arrived at a wedding and baptism reception to investigate the minor injury of three children on a kids’ float at the property, located due east of the greater Athens-Piraeus area.

At the time, no license was presented when requested by authorities, leading to a shutdown of the “business”.

However, according to media reports, that didn’t stop the property’s owner from luring future newlyweds and taking tens of thousands of euros in down payments. A chapel within the site served as another “draw” for nuptials.

Several lawsuits are pending, with reports saying the owner has not been located.
