A body washed up on a beach on Rhodes Island, Greece, late Thursday night, just two days after a British tourist went missing on the island, according to In.gr.

Authorities are first trying to determine whether or not it is indeed the missing 48-year-old British tourist, who was last seen on Wednesday afternoon.

The missing British tourist had gone for a swim on Theologou beach on Rhodes with his niece, but never emerged from the water.

His niece left the beach earlier, leaving him there. The young girl realized he was late in returning, and decided to return to the beach and look for him. After failing to find him she notified the authorities.

Initial Findings

A body was discovered on Thursday evening on Paradeisou beach, Rhodes, without clothing.

The coastguard, the police and the Silver Alert team (which is involved in trying to find missing persons) went to the beach and immediately an ambulence and medical examiner were called, which certified the death.

Currently a necropsy is being performed to determine the cause of death, which according to media reports, seems to be from drowning.

The news of yet another missing tourist in Greece is added to an unusually long list of tourists who perished in Greece this past summer, due to a variety of causes including succumbing to excessive heat.
