The number of refugee and migrant flows toward Greece continue to increase steadily. Refugees and migrants are arriving on the island of Crete, with the latest group disembarking in the isle of Gavdos, south of Crete in the early hours of the morning.
A total of 74 individuals requested assistance from the authorities. According to their statements, the group comprises 62 men from Pakistan, three from Sudan, and nine from Egypt.
This new incident highlights once again the ongoing and steadily growing refugee and migrant influx to Greece, and specifically the island of Crete.
The authorities responded immediately and initiated procedures for identification and investigation into the circumstances under which they reached the remote island.
As reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), arrangements were made to transfer the migrants by ferry to the port of Paleochora in Chania. From there, they will be transported to facilities in Agia for further registration and documentation processes.
Reports indicate that all migrants are in good health.
Yesterday, in the sea area north of Samos, a coast guard vessel spotted an inflatable boat carrying 50 refugees and migrants (18 men, 9 women, and 23 minors). They were initially transferred to the port of Malagari and subsequently taken to a Closed Controlled Facility on Samos.
