As if morning traffic could get any worse, serious disruptions in metro on Thursday morning, due to rainfall, as Attica goes through its first bout of autumnal bad weather.

According to a news report from MEGA, the bad weather caused a power outage in traffic lights of the metro  heading towards the airport. Authorities are inspecting the affected areas to restore service promptly.

Currently, no metro service running the blue line between Doukissis Plakentias and the Airport is operational.

Suburban railway lines had also been disrupted due to the power outage, but were restored a few hours later.

The Hellenic Train announced in a post on X that “service disruption on the suburban rail routes from SKA – Ano Liosia – Piraeus – Airport, due to a power outage and the deactivation of remote control systems.”

Power cuts have also affected traffic lights in central Athens, wreaking havoc on an already asphyxiating rush hour in the city.
