The suspended rail traffic supervisor at the Larissa terminal was released from remand on Friday on a 20,000-bond pending his trial on felony charges related to the deadly Tempi train collision in February 2023.
The man, D.N., an employee of state-run Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), was indicted and jailed on March 31, 2023 after his initial statements to investigating magistrates.
He faces charges in relation to the posting of the 59-year-old station director who has been accused of erroneously shifting one train into the path of another on the ill-fated evening of Feb. 28. The indictment maintains that the former knew the latter man did not fulfill the criteria for assuming the crucial position.
According to press reports from the central city of Larissa, the released man remains in a state of “house arrest”, following a decision by a council of appellate justices.
