Protesters Storm Syrian Embassy in Athens

According to reports one of the four individuals took down a portrait of Bashar al-Assad and stood on the balcony holding it while shouting: "Dictator."

Tension flared at the Syrian Embassy in Athens when unidentified individuals stormed the building located in Psychiko, a suburb in the Athens agglomeration, on Sunday, Dec. 8.

The incident unfolded shortly after 8 a.m. when four individuals, reportedly Syrian nationals and supporters of the opposition rebels, entered the Syrian embassy.

They replaced the Syria’s official flag with that of a revolutionary flag and removed photos of the country’s president, Bashar al-Assad from the walls.

According to reports one of the four individuals took down a portrait of Bashar al-Assad and stood on the balcony holding it while shouting: “Dictator.”

Police forces stationed outside the building intervened following a request from the Syrian ambassador and removed the intruders.

According to police reports, three individuals have been taken into custody by the State Security Department, while the incident is being further investigated.
