Greek authorities on Tuesday announced thousands of arrests and traffic stops around the country over the recent Christmas and New Year’s holidays, with more than 70,000 individuals and nearly 54,000 vehicles stopped and checked between Dec. 29 and the first day of 2024.
Out of the aforementioned figures, 2,501 persons were initially detained for further identification, while 1,079 arrests were made for various offences.
On the traffic front, more than 12,800 tickets and fines were issued, while 354 license plates were removed from vehicles, while seven vehicles were confiscated. The police figure were broken down into provinces and regions.
Police authorities in the east Mediterranean country said more intense patrols and checks would continue.
