Paxos: Storm off Ionian Island Damages and Sinks 3 Sailboats

The sailboats were damaged near Paxos from a foul weather front that hit Greece on Monday and lingers over several of the country's regions even today

Extreme weather, which hit Greece on Monday and continues even today, caused damages and sank at least three sailboats around the Ionian island of Paxos, according to the local news Ionian Channel.

In a post on X, which is Greek, the news channel shows a sailboat partially sunk in the water off the coast of the Greek island, which is operated by the wellknown charter company Istion charter.

The Hellenic meteorological authority EMY has warned that extreme weather may occur again today.

Paxos island is a well-known but small island of the Ioanian, popular among Italian and British tourists. It has been made famous recently as the critically acclaimed hit TV series Maestro in Blue has been filmed and set on the island.

The past few days, Paxos island has been trending on social media due to US film star Demi Moore’s presence on the island. She has been seen together with the Greek actor, director and screenwriter of Maestro, Christopher Papakaliatis, who posted photos of the two of them together on his instagram feed.

Passengers of Sunken Yatch off Sicily Still Missing

While no deaths have been reported in connection to the sunked sailboats off Paxos island, the search continues for passengers of the mega yatch which sank off the coast of Palermo, Sicily on Monday, August 19. Recent reports cite the captain saying that it was struck by a sudden and violent storm and they did not see a waterspout coming towards them. There were 22 passengers on board, including a tech billionair Mike Lynch, who is among the six passengers who remain missing.
