Parliament in Greece on Friday observed one minute’s silence to commemorate the Greek Jewish martyrs and heroes of the Holocaust and those killed by the Nazis during the 1941-45 occupation.
“Today we honor the memory of the six million Jews and many other victims of the unprecedented cruelty and horror of the Nazi regime. We also honor, however, all those that managed to survive, the living witnesses of the death camps during WWII,” said Parliamentary vice-president Thanasis Bouras said.
In a related development, the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) issued a message a day ahead of the annual Jan. 27 Holocaust Remembrance Day, citing the need to keep alive the memory of the atrocities committed during the Second World War and to “stand against terrorism and anti-Semitism” in the present.
