A major fire broke out at a hotel in Kalabaka, near Meteora, on Monday morning. The fire has led to the death of one person and the hospitalization of several others.
According to reports at ERT, the deceased is a 55-year-old man who is believed to be the owner of the hotel.
Reports suggest that the unfortunate man jumped from a balcony in an attempt to escape the fire. He was found on the level of the ground floor by firefighters and police officers.
Guests Rescued
Firefighters successfully evacuated the hotel residents, including families with children. Several injured individuals have been transported to a nearby hospital.
The fire is being fought by 26 firefighters with the support of 8 fire engines, and a specialized aerial ladder vehicle has been deployed to assist in the operation.
Efforts are ongoing to fully extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation by the authorities.
