In 1981, an assassination attempt against US President Ronald Reagan fails
Two months after his inauguration as the 40th president of the US, Ronald Reagan President Reagan was leaving the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. John Hinckley, Jr., fired his .22 caliber revolver at the President and his security team, striking Reagan under the left armpit. Press Secretary James Brady, Secret Service Agent Timothy McCarthy, and policeman Thomas Delahanty were also wounded during the shooting. He stayed at George Washington University Hospital for twelve days.
In 1912, the Treaty of Fès is signed
The Treaty established Morocco as a French protectorate, but it guaranteed that internal governance, the sultan, would be maintained.
In 1867, the United States buys Alaska from Russia
In 1866 the Russian government offered to sell Alaska to the United States. Secretary of State William H. Seward and Edouard de Stoeckl negotiated and came to an agreement on March 30, 1867. The Treaty of Cession was signed by Tzar Alexander II, The US ultimately bought Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million.
In 1856, the Treaty of Paris was signed
The Treaty of Paris was signed by Russia on the one part and France, Great Britain, Sardinia-Piedmont, and Turkey on the other. The Treaty ended the Crimean war. It guaranteed the independence of Turkey, neutralized the Black Sea and opened the Danube to international shipping.
