In 1989, a Surinam Airways jet crashes on landing in Paramaribo
The crash of the jet coming from the Netherlands occurred during an attempted landing in Suriname with poor visibility conditions due to fog. The crew attempted to land using a non-precision approach and deviated from the correct flight path. The aircraft struck the tops of trees and crashed about 2,800 feet short of the runway. Of the 187 on board only 11 survived.

In 1968, the world’s first Legoland resort opens
The world’s first Legoland resort opened in Billund, Denmark, next to the original LEGO factory. The park features six themed zones with intricate models and interactive attractions built from millions of LEGO bricks, designed to inspire creativity and imagination.
The Vatican City officially became a sovereign state on June 7 through the signing of the Lateran Treaty between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Italy. This agreement resolved the “Roman Question,” establishing the Vatican as an independent entity governed by the Pope. It is the smallest independent state in the world.
The Treaty was signed between Spain and Portugal, mediated by Pope Alexander VI. It aimed to resolve conflicts over newly discovered lands by Christopher Columbus outside Europe by establishing a line of demarcation dividing these territories between the two colonial powers, granting Portugal rights to explore and colonize lands to the east of the line and Spain to the west.
