New Evidence on Drowning at Halkidiki Summer Camp

According to a report from SKAI, the girl may have been at the bottom of the pool at the summer camp for up to three hours without anyone noticing, until her sister began looking for her

New evidence has come to light regarding the drowning of an 8-year-old girl at a summer camp’s swimming pool in Halkidiki.

The girl was found dead in a pool at a prominent summer camp in the village of Kriopigi (Kryopigi) on the afternoon on Tuesday.

According to a report from SKAI, the girl may have been at the bottom of the pool for up to three hours without anyone noticing, until her sister began looking for her.

The coroner’s report revealed that there were small food remnants in the girl’s stomach, likely from her breakfast, indicating that the girl had not gone to the dining hall with the other children for lunch.

The girl’s grandfather commented, “The child was found in the pool wearing her swimsuit. It seems she never left the pool to go for lunch because when the children go to the dining hall, they dress up. They don’t go in their swimsuits. Angeliki entered the pool with the other children and her older sister, who was also at the camp. When they left the pool to go eat, her sister looked for Angeliki, but she wasn’t there.”

The family’s girl is not only devastated but also in the dark about the circumstances surrounding the girls death.

“We don’t know anything. We’ve only had some information from the police, nothing else, as they conduct their preliminary investigation,” the girl’s grandfather noted.

“According to their statements, they were present, but I doubt it… how present could they have been? I believe the child drowned, and no one saw it,” he said.

The uncle continued, “Nobody from the camp has even spoken to us. Since the moment they called us and told us that the child swallowed some water and is going to the hospital, we’ve had no further contact with them.”

Meanwhile, the summer camp has come under scrutiny as the prosecutor was notified of the incident.

Investigations uncovered irregularities in the safety measures of the pool at the summer camp.

According to the official’s report, the fence is made of bushes and has several gaps, through which a small child could easily pass. There is also a small post, about 50 cm high, next to the double entrance gate, which a small child could easily use to step over and enter the pool area.
