Greece is set to experience a new wave of inclement weather starting Saturday, following a period of relative calm after recent storms wreaked havoc in the Cyclades, Dodecanese, and Crete. Meteorologists indicated that this forthcoming weather system will bring renewed rainfall and a drop in temperatures, with cooler conditions expected to persist into the new week.

Weather Forecast for the Weekend:

  • Saturday, April 5: Unstable weather conditions are anticipated across much of the country, with intermittent rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. The Sporades, Euboea, and gradually the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese may experience particularly intense phenomena, though these are expected to subside by evening. Light snowfall is also possible in the central and northern mountainous regions. Winds will blow from western directions at 3 to 4 Beaufort, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in southern areas. Temperatures will remain steady, with daytime highs ranging between 17°C and 19°C, and inland areas possibly reaching up to 20°C.

  • Sunday, April 6: The eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese will see increased cloudiness with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially in the northern parts during evening hours. Elsewhere, the day will start with scattered clouds and isolated showers in the west and north, becoming more pronounced in eastern Macedonia and Thrace by evening. Snowfall may occur in northern mountainous areas. Winds will shift to southwesterly at 3 to 5 Beaufort, turning northerly in the north at 4 to 6 Beaufort. A slight temperature drop is expected in northern regions.

Looking Ahead to Holy Week and Easter:

As Greece approaches Holy Week, a gradual increase in temperatures is expected, accompanied by a decrease in rainfall. This trend suggests milder and more stable weather conditions leading up to Easter Sunday, April 13. Early indications are favorable for outdoor Easter celebrations, with minimal chances of precipitation, primarily confined to mountainous regions during afternoon hours.
