Travel, transportation, public services, schools and health services will be disrupted by a general 24-hour nationwide strike announced by Greece’s public and private sector labor unions for Wednesday, February 28.
At the time of publication, participating in the strike are:
– air traffic controllers at airports across Greece. Travelers are advised to check with airlines or travel agents before heading to the airport.
– the Athens Metro
– the national railway service
– the suburban railway service
– port employees are also striking. There will be no ferry services from Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio.
– Athens tram services
– bus services in Thessaloniki
– taxi services – taxi unions have announced a 48-hour strike which started on Tuesday
– teachers’ unions have also said they will be participating in the strike but schools will remain open
– buses and trolleys in Athens will be running from 9am to 9pm with possible work stoppages.
Labor unions in Greece are up in arms over the cost of living and have also announced demonstrations to start from central Athens at 10am, Klafthmonos Square at 11am, and in Thessaloniki from the Venizelos Monument and the Arch of Galerius (Kamara) at 10.30am.
