Four teenagers were discovered unconscious in their home in Xanthi, a city in Northern Greece, on Friday morning, local reports note, likely due to a suspected gas leak. One passed away shortly after.

According to local reports from xanthinews.gr, the teenagers, three girls aged 15, 18, and 20, and a 16-year-old boy, were found unconscious by their mother in their rooms. She immediately alerted the police and fire department. Emergency responders entered the home in protected suits and transported them to the hospital in Xanthi.

The boy has since died, while two of the girls (15 and 18)  remain in the ICU. The third girl (20) is also at the hospital, but in better condition.

The incident comes a day after work was carried out on the property to install a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank. Investigators are examining whether the installation is connected to the suspected gas leak.

Authorities revealed that the basement, where the bedrooms are located, had an environment that appeared suffocating due to poor ventilation and potential gas accumulation.
