Local authorities are searching for a British tourist who went missing in Greece. The man was vacationing on the island of Rhodes, the largest in the Dodecanese cluster in the Aegean Sea, and according to reports, the missing person is a 48-year-old man who arrived in Rhodes for a holiday a few days ago with other family members.

Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, August 21), he reportedly disappeared after he went to a local beach called “Theologos Beach” with his niece.

His niece left the beach earlier, leaving him there. The young girl realized he was late in returning, and decided to return to the beach and look for him. After failing to find him she notified the authorities.

The police and Coast Guard are taking part in the search operation, while local boat owners have also been informed about the incident and are aiding in the efforts to locate the man.

This is one more case in the recent list of tourists gone missing while vacationing in Greece. In July no fewer than 4 foreigners went missing in Greece. In the most recent incident, a 23-year-old man from Slovakia was the focus of a search by members of an alpine civil protection unit on a peak overlooking the northwest lake-side city of Ioannina from the north.

The man went missing on Mt. Mitsikeli. According to local media reports, the Slovak man arrived in Ioannina as a volunteer for an NGO active as part of a European Union program.
