A global outage triggered by a Microsoft technical issue on Friday has caused widespread disruptions in air travel, particularly affecting airlines and airports that rely on Microsoft systems. Athens International Airport is facing delays, although its own systems are operating normally.
The most significant impact is on airlines using Microsoft systems for ground services, which has led to manual check-ins and resulting flight delays.
Greece’s national carrier, Aegean Airlines, is also affected. While the airline’s main operations are largely intact, however some online services linked to third-party systems are experiencing disruptions.
This includes check-in services connected to airport systems, potentially causing issues for passengers if the related airports are impacted. Aegean advises travelers to monitor its official channels for updates.
In recent developments, Microsoft has announced that it has restored most of its cloud services following the blackout.
The company has pinpointed the underlying cause but noted that a small number of services are still experiencing problems.
However, ongoing user reports continue to reveal issues, and it remains unclear if a recent software upgrade from CrowdStrike played a role.
