An Israeli El Al airliner was forced to make an emergency landing in Thessaloniki on Thursday due to violent passenger on board.
According to a report in the Jerusalem Post, Israel’s national airline stated that flight LY2522 from Prague to Israel was forced to make an emergency landing at the Makedonia Airport of Thessaloniki, where the passenger was removed from the flight by local police.
“El Al has a zero-tolerance policy for violence and we will continue to ensure the safety of our passengers,” a company’s statement read.
According to reports, air marshals aboard the passenger jet detailed the passenger on after he attempted to enter the cockpit during the flight.
Initial reports made no mention of possible motives. The disruptive passenger remained unidentified, with Israeli news agency N12 describing the suspect as “likely Arab.”
