Internet use in Greece remains high, as nearly 9 out of ten Greek households (86.9%) have internet access in 2024, marking a 32.5% rise compared to a decade ago, according to a survey by the Greek statistical authorities (ESTAT).

The survey sampled 3,585 households, with 86.3% of respondents aged 16-74 saying they used the Internet in the first quarter of 2024.
The primary web browsing activities included product and service information search (92%) and reading news online (88.4%), engaging 9 out of 10 Internet users in this age group.
The following online activities saw a notable rise over the first quarter of the past year (Q1 2023-Q1 2024):
Searching for health-related information (+11.8%)
Posting opinions on social or political topics on websites or social media (+8.8%)
Participating in online consultations or votes on social or political issues, such as signing petitions or commenting on draft laws (+6.5%)
Online learning and education-related searches accounted for 51.4% of searches in 2024.
More specifically, in Q1 2024, 26.2% of Internet users engaged in online learning activities, up from 18.3% in 2023. These activities included attending webinars, using educational materials, and communicating with instructors or peers via platforms like Webex, Zoom, MS Teams, Google Classroom.
E-Government Services
Approximately two-thirds (66.3%) of individuals aged 16-74 used e-government services between April 2023 and March 2024 for personal purposes, a slight decrease from 67% during the previous period. Since 2021, ELSTAT has been tracking detailed activities under e-government usage.
The findings highlight the continued integration of digital tools into everyday life and the steady growth of digital engagement in Greece.
