This weekend marks the climax of the Carnival festivities in the country and thousands of people have arrived in the western port city of Patras, which annually hosts the most the biggest celebration.
Since yesterday, impressive floats, extravagant costumes, parades and non-stop music have kept the city in a festive mood. Artists of the municipality of Patras have prepared almost 200 floats to be showcased in the Grand Parade set to commence at 2 p.m. More than 60,000 people, mostly students and young adults, will join in on the event.
The impressive closing ceremony will take place at 9 p.m. at the pier of Agios Nikolaos, the northern port of the city, where performers are guaranteed to give visitors a unique and spectacular show.
The main part of the event will be the burning of King Carnival, followed by a one-hour concert.
Chocolate war floats will then parade across the city spreading treats along the way, a traditional way to bring the show to a sweet close.
The night won’t stop there, however, as bursting music and DJ sets will keep the party going until the early hours of the morning.
The carnival festivities will be widely broadcasted for those at home to see.
